Staple Clothing Items You Need To Get The Kids This Winter To Keep Them Toasty And Warm

When winter rolls around, it can be easy to forget about some essential items you need to have to brave the cold. This is doubly true for the kids. It’s vital to ensure they’re ready to face the bitter cold outside. Of course, this means they need to have the right clothing items to do so. Before we’re already knee-deep in rain and cold, take some time now, in the fall, to stock up on items your kids are going to need this winter. This way, you won’t have to rush to a store last-minute when you realize you forgot to buy them extra socks. This list will help you get everything in order ahead of time, giving you some peace of mind as the seasons change. Without further ado, here are some key items your kids will need to have in their closets this winter to keep them nice and warm.

A Hooded Jacket

The very first item that should be on your list is a toasty hooded (waterproof!) jacket. Aside from keeping your child warm, a hooded jacket is essential for rainy and stormy days. To really ensure they’re warm, go for a heavyweight jacket that has elastic bindings around the hood and sleeve cuffs to keep the cold air out.

Waterproof Shoes

Good shoes are a must during the winter. Heavy-duty boots can be rather irritating to wear all day, so a good alternative is waterproof shoes that are more comfortable. They can be boots or even comfortable sneakers that are durable. The main thing to avoid is soggy socks and cold feet.

A Knit Hat

You’ve probably heard the old wives’ tale saying that most of our body heat escapes from the head. While we can’t confirm if that’s true, it’s still important to keep the head covered and warm on chilly days. A warm hat will at least keep the ears warm. Keep a couple of cozy hats on hand for the kids to throw on when they head out the door.

A Base Layer

For those bone-chilling cold days, make sure to have an extra bottom layer for the kids. This could be thermal long underwear, warm tights, or a long-sleeved top to put on underneath their shirt. If you want to go the extra mile for your kids, opt for a set of a long top and bottoms that wicks away moisture and dries quickly.

A Scarf

Scarves are a must for keeping the cold wind out. At the same time, they’re a good way to brighten up an outfit and give your child a way to express themselves. If your kids are old enough, have them pick out the scarf they want. This will ensure they actually wear it as well.

Gloves

Be sure to have a few pairs of gloves on-hand. Of course, it’s important that the kids like them so they actually wear them. Not to mention, gloves are easy to lose, which is why it’s important to have more than one pair. All the same, invest in a good quality, padded waterproof pair of gloves to keep at home to make sure your little ones are ready to go and enjoy the snow when they can.
