She continued to lose weight as well even though she ate normally. Unfortunately, she eventually lost her appetite. It did not seem like a virus nor a cold, so her mom accompanied her to a check-up. The diagnosis was not what they expected.

By then, she had been admitted to the Tenterden Hospital so many times that the nurses and the doctors all knew who she was. Even so, none of them knew what was going on with her. Yasmin had been 19 years old when she learned that she was suffering from something called Idiopathic Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension. Also known as PHTN, it is a rare disorder of the heart and the lungs. Those who suffer from it can’t breathe properly. It is shocking to hear that most sufferers do not survive past the age of 17!

“The diagnosis was a relief at first but now it’s just difficult to live with,” she explained. Back then, she thought that she was a normal young adult. “Now I’m on medication it’s more manageable, I’ve actually had a pump fitted now which I have to take my medication though, it’s permanently attached to me.” We are delighted to see that she is beating the odds of her disease!

It is not exactly easy for her to live with this condition. She needed to make plenty of adjustments to her life, for one thing. For starters, the treatment was very expensive. Yasmin also knew that it would be impossible for her to live a normal life. She needed all the help that she could get, which was why she started a crowdfunding campaign. Her goal had been $1,300, which would cover the initial treatment.

Yasmin is grateful for the support of her loved ones as well. She is thankful that her boyfriend, friends, and parents are there for her. They just want her to live life to the fullest.
